This Project is being implemented under the direct supervision of Chief Adviser`s Office. This eight-year- long project (July 2002- June 2010) has a financial allocation of Tk.715.98 corer, which is entirely GOB money. Side by side with financial allocation this project has an allocation of 1.50 lack MT of food grain under non ADP food for work programme earmarked for the implementation of earthwork necessary for getting project sites ready for barrack house construction.
Main Activities of the
Project and Latest Progress:
Till June 30, 2007 a total of 889 projects from 61 districts have been approved for implementation. Main activities of this project and their latest progress are as follows:
Activity-1: Construction of Barrack houses for the Landless and Homeless People: Against the set target of 6500 barracks work order for 5246 barracks has so far been given to the Armed Forces Division - of which 4256 barracks have been constructed and the remaining 990 barracks are now under construction.
Activity-2: VGF Programme for the Rehabilitated Families: So far 41753 families of 529 complete projects have been given VGF facilities for two months. Ministry of Food and Disaster Management implements this programme at the request of Abashan Project.
Activity-3: Orientation and Trade-based-training for the Rehabilated People: So far 39670 families (2 members from each family) from 509 projects have received three-day- long orientation programme at a total cost of Tk 2.73 crore. 39670 families (2 members from each family) have also received two-week-long trade based training at a cost of Tk 11.20 crore.
Activity-4: Micro-credit for the Rehabilitated Families: Till today 39670 rehabilitated families of 463 projects have received micro-credit of Tk 25.70 crore.
Activity-5: Tree Plantation for the Rehabilitated Families: So far Tk 85.83 lac has been allotted to the Upazilla Administration and Forest Department for the plantation of 3.90 lack trees in 453 Abashan Projects.
Activity- 6: Electification Work for the Rehabilitated Families: The electrification work of Abashan Project is done by REB and PDB. So far 224 projects have been electrified at a cost of Tk 13.76 crore.
Activity-7: Construction of Ghatlas for Abashan Ponds: An amount of Tk 2.20 crore has so far been sent to the Upazilla Nirbahi Officers for the construction of 221 Ghatlas in Abashan ponds.
Activity-8: Construction of Community Centres: For the construction of 515 normal community centres and 4 three-storied flood-shelter-cum-community centres necessary amount of money has been released to the UNOs and DCs. The community centres are used for the purpose of training, recreation, social and family gatherings, disbursement and recovery of micro-credit etc.
Activity-9: Construction of Internal Road: To facilitate all time movement of the Abashan people during rainy season as well as other seasons internal roads (HBB & BFS) are being constructed inside all Abashan Projects. An amount of Tk. 8.20 crore has so far been allotted for this purpose.
Activity-10: Registration of Title Deeds for the Rehabilitated Families: So far 39670 families of 526 Abashan Projects have been handed over registered title deeds for the lands given to them. A sum of Tk. 11.57 lac has been spent for this purpose.
Activity-11: Unfinished Work of Asrayon Project: Abashan Project is entrusted to take care of unfinished activities and repair work of Asrayon Project implemented immediately before this project. An amount of Tk. 3.50 crore has so far been spent for this purpose.
So far the project has achieved 67% cumulative progress against its total target. We have still approximately two years to complete this project. Within this time it will be possible to achieve 100% target of the project.
